The award “Marija Ilic Agapova” was given to Sofronijevic
and Dukic on the occasion of celebrating Belgrade City Library’s 82nd birthday on January 11, 2013.
As it was explained in the proposition for the award, Sofronijevic’s
innovative apporach and sense for quality international cooperation, among
other successes, is what qualified him for the award. Thanks to his efforts over
the past several years the librarians in Belgrade had the opportunity to follow
the latest trends in library and information science and meet up with prominent
leaders of contemporary librarianship. Adam’s activities brought world’s
librarianship to Belgrade, and represented Serbian librarianship to the world
in the best possible way.
Out of numerous successful relations with international library institutions and individuals, Adam’s efforts are most recognizable in permanent and firm cooperation with LIBER. He is the first and so far the only librarian from South-East Europe who is an active member of the program committee of LIBER’s annual conference, which is considered the most prestigious conference for academic libraries in Europe. Through continual collaboration with LIBER Adam ensured participation of University Library in projects Europeana Libraries and Europeana Newspapers. These projects define future of librarianship in Europe in digitization of scientific and cultural heritage domain.
Adam’s rich bibliography lists over 50 papers published in international journals, including the ones in SCI list, and chapters in monographic publications printed in various countries such as Turkey and USA. His papers have been presented at significant international conferences on many occasions.
Adam Sofronijevic holds following degrees: BSc in Computer Science
(Higher School for Electrical Engineering, Belgrade), BSc in Organizational Sciences
- Management (Faculty of Organizational Sciences, University of Belgrade),
Master of Library and Information Science (Faculty of Philology, University of
Belgrade), and Master of Organizational Sciences (Faculty of Organizational
Sciences, University of Belgrade). He is currently a PhD candidate at the
Faculty of Philology.
