PREMIERE: Introduction to Ancient Greek History – a Course of the Yale University

On March 12th at 6 p.m. University Library “Svetozar Markovic” presents Introduction to Ancient Greek History, lectures by professor Donald Kagan with Serbian subtitles, within the international Open Education Week.

To mark the occasion the introductory lecture of the course taught by professor Kagan with Serbian subtitles will be presented. Professor Aleksandar Jerkov, University Library CEO, professor Dalibor Soldatic, vice-rector of the University of Belgrade, Ryan Rowlands, public affairs counselor at the Embassy of the United States in Serbia and Elizabeth Chang, International Academic Center director, will greet the guests. Jasmina Nikolic, open access archon of the University of Belgrade and professor at the Faculty of Philology, Adam Sofronijevic and Vesna Vuksan, librarians at the University Library, will present the opportunities offered by open online education. 

 

Profesor Kagan’s lecture is a part of the Open Yale course called Introduction to Ancient Greek History. University Library “Svetozar Markovic” in cooperation with the International Academic Center and Volunteer Club of the University Library translated into Serbian 24 lectures from this course so as to make them available to the Serbian public and it provided effective access to these materials regardless of the knowledge of English. 


The cooperation of the aforementioned institutions will provide an opportunity for Serbian people to listen to professor Donald Kagan, one of the most renowned present-day historians. His lectures trace the ancient roots of the Western civilization which originated in Ancient Greece and they voice the need to study them in order to grasp the essence of the present and to improve it.
